On the 18th of March on the Siikajarvi lake the regular ice fishing festival was held. As in previous years, there were a lot of people who wanted to take part in it. The weather was wonderful: it was sunny and a little frosty, and the sky was clear!

On the fifth of March from the «Paanajarvi» national park visit centre the dog sledding expedition started. Its aim was to reach the summit of Nuorunen. For the first time ever four dog sleds have reached this renowned mountain top. The next step of the expedition took place on the beautiful park routes and on the Paanajarvi lake. The snow was rather soft, so it was difficult for dogs to run, but everyone honourably braved the challenge. The villagers had an opportunity to get acquainted with the huskies – the famous sled dog breed. Of course, children were amazed most of all.

In the Paanajarvi national park Sami days were again held to celebrate the Sami National Day (February 6). These were Sami people who lived in our territory long time ago. We remember about it thanks to seitas – amazing sacred stones – and unusual names of islands and rivers.
