On the 18th of March on the Siikajarvi lake the regular ice fishing festival was held. As in previous years, there were a lot of people who wanted to take part in it. The weather was wonderful: it was sunny and a little frosty, and the sky was clear!

At 10 o’clock the first fishermen’s team went from the shore to the coveted places. In half an hour the other participants joined them. During the first hours nobody managed to get a significant catch, but round midday the situation changed.

As a result, during the day the fishermen caught more than 26 kilos of perches: the biggest one weighed more than a kilo — 1060 g. The fishermen competed long and hard for the title «Small Fish Are Sweet», and only in the last few minutes it became clear who would get it.

We are very pleased that we have permanent participants, and we are thinking to add a nomination «For Fidelity and Constancy». This year we could have awarded it to Y. Lafutin (Petrozavodsk), S. Vyakhirev (Pyaozerskiy village), R. Burakovaskaya (Pyaozerskiy village) — all of them are permanent participants of the festival.

The participants’ age varied from 7 to 60 and older, but it doesn’t matter: it’s important to be an optimist!
