On the 13th-15th of September in the «Vartiolampi» ecology camp there was held a seminar for natural science teachers. The topic of the seminar was «Pupils’ research activity is one of the forms of interaction between educational institutions and the protected territories».
Interaction with teachers is one of the ways of environmental education. The seminar for chemistry, biology, geography teachers was organized and held by the environmental education team in collaboration with the supervisor of the regional department of education.
The agenda of the seminar included the introduction of the tutorial and natural resources of the park.
The teachers visited Karelian house, where they managed to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the people of northern Karelia and to use the exposition to give classes to their pupils.
The excursion on «Kivakkakoski waterfall» route included visiting of natural objects and completing of tasks connected with the seminar topic.
The water excursion «Paanajarvi lake» was dedicated to the history of Finnish settlements, economic life of khutors of the early 20th century and possible topics for classes with the pupils.
In addition to introduction of natural and museum resources of the park, there were held the following activities: seminar «Tutorial resources of the national park for organizing and giving classes to the pupils», practical game «Research-to-practice conference for pupils» and the cooperative game «Rainbow». These activities were aimed to introduce possible methods and forms of interaction with children and to test them with the help of the participants of the seminar.
During the roundtable discussion the participants of the seminar shared their experience with the regional institutions regarding the issues of environmental education and mentoring.
The environmental education team distributed guidance materials and literature to the schools of the region.
